Sokka Actor Teases Great Character Arc In Avatar: The Last Airbender S2

Ian Ousley, best known for playing Sokka in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series, has teased his amazing character arc in Season 2. Created by Albert Kim, the live-action adaptation follows Gordon Cormier’s Aang, the Avatar, and explores his journey of learning how to bend all four key elements—water, fire, earth, and air—to stop the Fire Nation and bring peace to the world.

In his recent talk with Collider, Ousley discussed Sokka’s character development in Season 2 in great detail. He revealed that losing Princess Yue (Amber Midthunder) was heartbreaking for Sokka, a scenario that could make the character more emotionally mature.

“He [Sokka] didn’t accomplish his goal of protecting Yue, which wasn’t his decision, but, yeah, I think that’s going to open up a lot more reality for Sokka. I’m very excited to see how we focus on his humor, his relationships in the future,” said Ousley.

The finale of Season 1 showed the trio of Aang, Sokka, and Katara (Kiawentiio) working with the Northern Water tribe to stop the Fire Nation’s forces, led by Commander Zhao. Chief Arnook tasks Sokka to protect his daughter, Princess Yue. Amidst the battle, Zhao sneakily kills the Moon Spirit, one of the two spirits that reside in the Spirit Oasis at the North Pole. The death of the Moon Spirit results in water benders losing their powers, giving the Fire Nation a chance to breach the walls of the Northern Water tribe. Yue realises her powers can revive the Moon Spirit. Sokka tries to stop her, but Yue freezes his feet and sacrifices herself to become the new Moon Spirit.

The death of Princess Yue will undoubtedly leave a long-lasting impact on Sokka. Before losing Yue, he also endured the loss of his parents. Plus, he shares a strong emotional bond with his sister, Katara. All these scenarios will make Sokka’s emotional journey intriguing in the forthcoming seasons.

Apart from gaining emotional maturity, Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 may aid Sokka in becoming more responsible and kind-hearted. Ian Ousley seems happy with his character’s story so far. So, we should expect more exciting adventures for Sokka in the upcoming seasons. Stay tuned for more updates.
