Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi’s ‘Double XL’ Teaser Promises A Fun Film

Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi’s upcoming film ‘Double XL’ released a quirky teaser this afternoon. The film has wrapped shoot and will hit theatres in Summer 2022. ‘Double XL’ continues the recent Bollywood trend of creating films with a social message, a trend made popular by the two AKs, Akshay Kumar and Ayushmaan Khurrana. The teaser of Double XL, like its title, suggests that the film will shine a light on the ludicrous societal culture of body-shaming “plus-sized” women. Not just Indian women but women the world over have to put up with fat-shaming, sometimes with heinous consequences.

Now, we have two Bollywood stars take on these fat-shamers – stars who have had to go through vicious attacks by fat-shamers in real life. For that reason alone, Huma Qureshi and Sonakshi Sinha are perfect for the roles. As the two badass stars reveal in the teaser, Huma Qureshi was constantly trolled in real life as being too heavy to be a Bollywood leading lady. Sonakshi Sinha was often called ‘Motakshi’ in comments on her social media.

The two stars of Double XL reveal this in a casual conversational tone, while chomping on burgers and slurping milk shakes in the quirky teaser. But what about its effect on their weight? And then more body-shaming? The two couldn’t care less! The teaser then reveals their characters. Huma Qureshi plays Rajshri Trivedi from Meerut and Sonakshi Sinha is Saira Khanna from Delhi. Both are double XL, and both are comfortable in their skins. Double XL promises to be a welcome addition to the social message films genre. Body shaming must be stopped, and now! Let’s hope Double XL can make even a dent in the prevalent body-shaming culture of today.

Double XL also stars Notebook actor Zaheer Iqbal and Tamil actor Mahat Raghavendra. The latter will make his Bollywood debut with Double XL. Double XL is written by Mudassar Aziz, directed by Satramm Ramani, and produced by Mudassar Aziz’s Wakaoo Films, Elemen3 Entertainment & Reclining Seats Cinema. Huma Qureshi and brother Saqib Saleem are co-producers on the film.
