Sony Pictures has been in news for their upcoming films but also they are in news right now for the deals they have been making recently. Recently Sony Pictures signed a deal with Netflix, which gave Netflix the right to stream their upcoming movies post their theatrical run. The deal will start off with Sony Pictures movie releases in 2022.
The deal with Netflix meant that movies from the Spiderman franchise, Venom, Jumanji, the upcoming Morbius, Uncharted and many others. The deal gave Netflix an 18 month exclusive window for all these titles and even more. But now, Netflix isn’t the only that Sony has signed a deal with.
After Netflix, Sony has now signed up a deal with Disney too, which also gives Disney the right to stream all of Sony Pictures upcoming movies. But here’s the twist, Disney will only be able to stream the movies after the movies have exited theatres and entered Netflix. After the movies have entered Netflix and only after the pre-decided streaming window on Netflix, Disney will finally be able to stream the titles.
This definitely seems like a long route. Netflix right now is Sony’s Pay 1 TV window, which means the first streaming rights are with Netflix. But for once, there’s good news for Marvel fans, as finally with the deal Disney+ will become home to everything Marvel, including the ones that are owned by Sony.
This means movies like the Spiderman franchise, Venom franchise, Morbius and even the Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse franchise will all be available to stream on Disney+ according to the deal. It is also true that when the new ones release, people will definitely already watch it even before it reaches Disney. But even with those, Marvel fans will never be disappointed by the fact that all of them will be available together, even if you don’t have a subscription for Netflix some time.
With all these deals and upcoming movies, all we say is that Sony Pictures definitely is gaining and also is on a massive roll now.
