The worldwide gaming phenomenon God of War, will be getting a live action adaptation. Sony owns the game franchise and they themselves are planning on releasing the live-action version. We will be getting an official announcement from them very soon, where they will announce if we will be getting a feature film or a television series.
Jason Momoa has been tipped to play the hulking protagonist Kratos, while Dave Bautista is being looked at to portray the Greek God of War Ares, who is the primary antagonist from the first game in the series. Daniel Craig was initially offered the chance to portray Kratos but he eventually declined the role (normally no Daniel Craig is a sad day indeed but for this film, it would not feel right for the legendary character to be played by a man who is barely 5’9’’).
The game series is set in an alternate version of Ancient Greece which is populated by various Greek mythological figures, Gods and Titans. The series protagonist Kratos is a warrior who serves the Greek Gods of Olympus. After being tricked into killing his wife and child by Ares, he sets out to seek revenge against the God of War.
God of War is one of the biggest gaming franchises in the world. The series started off with God of War which was released in 2005 for Playstation 2. The franchise gradually grew with God of War II (2007) and God of War III (2010), with the former dropping in Playstation 2 and the latter on Playstation 3. And back in 2018, Another God of War was released which is set many years after events of God of War III. God of War: Ragnarok is expected to release next year for the Playstation 5 console.
