Maharani is Sony Liv’s latest thriller which stars Huma Qureshi as the main lead of the series. Sony Liv has been garnering a lot of praise for the kind of originals that it has created recently and ‘Scam 1992’ is one of their trump cards which finds itself with an impressive rating of 9.5/10 on IMDB.
The OTT space has allowed many of the creators to experiment with different genres and topics in the recent past but these platforms have also been susceptible to the backlash of the masses for portraying sensitive topics from time to time. Tandav and Mirzapur are prime examples of that.
Maharani is also set in the political background of Bihar in the 90s where the wife of the chief minister who is an illiterate woman is handed down the reigns and finds it difficult to handle all this newfound power and responsibilities.
Apart from Huma Qureshi, we also see stars like Sohum Shah, Amit Sial, Vineet Kumar, Pramod Pathak, Kani Kasturi, Inaam Ul Haq, Sushil Pandey, Atul Tiwari, Aashiq Hussain, Kannan Arunachalam, and Harish Khanna. Maharani is created by Subhash Kapoor and directed by Karan Sharma.
Maharani is set to show the political turmoil in Bihar during the 90s and it also shows a few misogynistic characters in the trailer who are hell-bent on creating havoc in the state. While it may possess an intriguing theme, its sensitive topic may touch on the nerve of several people and also put them into trouble.
Maharani will stream on Sony Liv on 28th May.
