This sitcom is getting its very own movie now and Sony Pictures needs to be thanked for it. “Bewitched” , the iconic sitcom that aired from 1964-72 is all set to have a movie now. The series that starred actress Elizabeth Montgomery, will have Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett to write the script for the upcoming movie. Both have earlier worked for series like Macgyver and 12 Monkeys. The movie is being produced by John David and John Fox.
This is not the first time Sony Pictures have gone on to recreate the series into a movie. In 2005, it released a romantic comedy version starring Nicole Kidman as the witch turned wife and Will Ferrell as her husband. But apparently, the latest movie will not recreate it into a different version. Its entire focus will be on the story of the series itself.
The 2005 version didn’t receive reviews that were good enough as compared to the original series it was based on. The makers this time won’t be taking any chances, as they believe moving away from the basic plot of the series caused them the last movie.
“Bewitched”, recently was on the news once again as the Marvel’s superhit series “WandaVision” had parts inspired from the very sitcom. As we all saw, the latest Marvel series this time, chose the “sitcom” theme as the background. The series perfectly blended in with the Bewitched, as that too told the story of how a witch kept it all under control with her powers while her husband was off to work.
As of now, there has been no news as to who the makers will cast for the brand new movie. Given how legendary, the sitcom was and how the last recreation starred Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell, it would be really great to see who takes on the responsibility of going forward with the torch of “Bewitched”.
