On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2020, SonyLIV released a poignant short film on its streaming app as well as on its official YouTube channel, to celebrate the marvel called woman. Titled Ghar Ki Murgi, the short film is written by Nitish Tiwari and directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, the director who gave us nuanced offerings such as Bareilly Ki Barfi, Panga and Nil Battey Sannata. While those were full length feature films, Ghar Ki Murgi apparently packs in the same powerful punch in its eighteen-minute runtime.
Ghar Ki Murgi stars talented actress Sakshi Tanwar in the role of Seema Bhatia – a housewife, mother and daughter-in-law who keeps her home running in well-oiled perfection, selflessly and relentlessly. But she is like the metaphorical ‘Ghar Ki Murgi’, the one who is perpetually taken for granted by her insensitive husband, her thoughtless kids and her in-laws.
Much like Sridevi’s character in Gauri Shinde’s English Vinglish, Seema does something that stuns her family out of its annoying insensitivity. We won’t reveal more of the story here, lest it spoils your experience of watching the movie.
Critics and audiences have been raving about Sakshi’s superbly natural acting and the poignancy of the story. A cursory glance through Twitter will tell you how both categories of people aforementioned, have loved the short film.
All we can say is, check out Ghar Ki Murgi for yourself. Here’s the YouTube link of the short film –
