Finally, weeks after the film premiered in theatres, ‘Ajagajantharam‘ is now making an appearance on an OTT platform. And the OTT platform that apparently bought the streaming rights for this film is SonyLIV. ‘Ajagajantharam’ has slowly been losing traction in theatres over the last couple of weeks and with the rise in the number of Covid-19 and Omicron cases, the OTT move a smart decision by the film producers. This way, the movie gets a new launch while the OTT platform gets another Malayalam movie for its ever-expanding Malayalam library.
SonyLIV has slowly been acquiring low-key yet brilliant Malayalam films for direct-to-OTT streaming on its platform – and the OTT platform has had more success with them than Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar combined. With films like ‘Kaanekkaane’, ‘Madhuram’ and ‘Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam’, SonyLIV‘s smart acquisitions have turned many heads towards this streaming platform. Now, SonyLIV is doing the same with theatrical releases as well, buying the streaming rights of Malayalam films which many other OTT platforms will not be too invested in but are actual crowd-pleasers.
And ‘Ajagajantharam’ is exactly that – a different type of crowd-pleaser. This action-thriller was released in theatres before Christmas last year, and went on to be a low-key hit, somehow managing to withstand the pressures of the crowd-pleasing features, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘Pushpa‘. The film lasted in theatres for more than 45 days and has already come to be considered by many as a cult film. This streaming acquisition looks exactly in line with the kind of Malayalam films SonyLIV premieres and we have a feeling that ‘Ajagajantharam’ will get a resurgence on this OTT platform. All we are waiting for now is the official announcement.
