SonyLIV has been giving out some pretty decent regional content in recent times and it continues to do so with the world premiere of upcoming Tamil (‘Naduvan’) and Telugu (‘Aakashvaani’) films. While ‘Aakashvaani’ will premiere on SonyLIV on 24th September, 2021, the release date for ‘Naduvan’ is yet to be announced.
‘Aakashvaani’ teaser launched a few days ago and it was simply beautiful and intriguing at the same time. Set in a world far away form worldly worries and any sort of technology in nature’s lap, a community of simple people live a peaceful life. There is also a king who lives in a palace in this distant world. But apart form all this people of the community get concerned when something new and unknown is discovered.
This disturbs the calmness of the serene world they live in and fear and tension makes its way into the community. What is it that has caused so much worry and does not feel right at all? Anyways, towards the end the teaser once again takes a happy turn and shows a boy of the tribal community merrily hanging from the branch of a tree with a radio/transistor swinging in another one.
‘Aakashvaani’ is the directorial debut of Ashwin Gangaraju, who has also written the film. It stars P. Samuthirakan as Chandram Master, Vinay Varma as Dhora, Teja Kakumanu as Sambadu and Prashant as Gidda among others. The music for the film is composed by legendary music composer MM Keeravaani’s son Kaala Bhairava and the film’s crew is equally amazing with Sreekar Prasad as editor and dialogues from Sai Madhav Burra.
Earlier, ‘Aakashvaani’ was supposed to mark SS Rajamouli’s son SS Karthikeya’s feature film production debut but he later announced that he is no longer part of the project. It is now being produced by Padmanabha Reddy.
Coming to Tamil film ‘Naduvan’, it is an intense action mystery thriller film written and directed by Sharang. The teaser released by SonyLIV starts off with an intriguing setting where a bungalow is shown in the dark of night with clouds thundering and lightning striking in the background. It soon takes us inside the bungalow where the camera leads the viewers through the dimly lit house and to the source of a sweet melancholic song.
The music stops and a man enters the scene pouring a drink with an ignited cigarette kept on the same table where there is also a photo of a girl in a frame. With a dramatic thrilling music in the background, this man talks about life, it’s different experiences for different people and how something that felt wrong might start to feel right after some time. He also declares towards the end that he is going to kill that day, despite knowing that it’s wrong to commit murder.
‘Naduvan’ stars Bharath Niwas, Aparna Vinod, Gokul, Aruvi Bala and Yog Jaypee among others. With music form Dharan, the film is produced by Lucky Chajjer and the production company behind the film is Cue Entertainment.
Both ‘Aakashvaani’ and ‘Naduvan’ will join the growing slate of SonyLIV’s original regional content that includes films like ‘Thaen’, ‘Vaazhl’, ‘Thittam Irandu’, ‘Kasada Tabara’, ‘Vivaha Bhojanambu’, ‘Alpha Adimai’, ‘Priyuraalu’ and ‘Kaanekkaane’.
Given the kind of regional films SonyLIV has been getting its hands on, it is quite clear that the channel is not running a rat race to catch big star masala entertainers and is more into meaningful content based films that entertain and make you think at the same time.
