SonyLIV has built a reputation like no other Indian OTT platform has in India, thanks to shows like Scam 1992, Tabbar, Rocket Boys, and more. All these projects show SonyLIV’s ability to turn coals into diamonds. Despite this, one problem is hindering the platform’s success and growth in the Indian OTT market. Yes, we are talking about the ongoing drought of originals on the platform. Believe it or not, SonyLIV delivered only one original series to its subscribers in February 2024. What’s more surprising about this situation is that the OTT service did not offer any licensed projects either last month.
It means that SonyLIV offered only one project (in total) to its viewers last month. And that project was Aniruddha Rajderkar’s legal drama, Raisinghani vs Raisinghani, starring Jennifer Winget and Karan Wahi.
Raisinghani vs Raisinghani turned out to be a lame offering from SonyLIV. Viewers do not expect SonyLIV to release projects that feel like soap operas, given the platform’s current stature in the Indian OTT market. The Jennifer Winget starrer is a slow-burning soap opera that takes a long time to start cooking. The leading duo looks impressive, but the story offers nothing new to viewers.
SonyLIV can do way better than crappy shows like Raisinghani vs Raisinghani. The streaming platform needs to develop more high-quality and entertaining original shows to dominate the Indian OTT market. Stay tuned for more updates.
SonyLIV February 2024 Success Score – 0%.
