While most of SonyLIV’s offerings in January 2024 turned out to be a ‘hit’, the streaming platform failed to deliver more ‘Original’ entries last month. SonyLIV’s reliance on game shows and reality shows points out that the streaming platform suffers from a serious lack of content. Therefore, more original entries would benefit the OTT platform immensely, particularly in terms of viewership. TVF’s Cubicles Season 3 saved SonyLIV last month. Classified (Series/Licensed) – Hit
Classified revolves around a young girl, Ella, whose life turns upside down after she starts living with her estranged father in South Africa. She gets admission into an elite international school with its own secrets and agendas. Soon, things take a wild turn after she discovers her stepmother’s connection with the CIA. The series has received mostly positive reviews.
Cubicles Season 3 (Series/Original) – Hit
The third season of Cubicles was as excellent as its predecessors. This time, we see Piyush (Abhishek Chauhan) as a team leader. At first, he becomes excited about handling the responsibility of a team leader. But soon, he realises the burden of those responsibilities. All five episodes look crisp. As compared to previous entries, Season 3 looks more emotional and serious. Apart from performances and writing, the third season’s score stands out. Overall, Season 3 is another outstanding season of Cubicles from Arunabh Kumar and his team.
Journey (Series/Original) – Miss
SonyLIV’s Journey is a nine-episode series from the prominent filmmaker Cheran. The series revolves around five individuals with different backgrounds and challenges who want to work in a well-reputed and high-paying organisation. The biggest drawback of this project is that Cheran fails to properly explore the social issues that have been mentioned in the show. In addition, the show’s non-linear format and slow-paced episodes may test your patience.
Jeopardy! Masters (Series/Licensed) – Hit
This Merv Griffin creation is different from other quiz competition shows. Contestants receive general knowledge clues presented as answers, and they are required to recognize the corresponding person, place, thing, or idea by framing their responses in the form of a question, rather than being provided with direct questions. Masters focused on the competition among the former six champions of the original Jeopardy series.
Raid the Cage (Series/Licensed) – Miss
Hosted by Damon Wayans Jr and Jeannie Mai, Raid the Cage is a game show, involving two contestants from two different teams competing against each other to win prizes from a giant cage. The team that earns the highest score gets to keep the prizes and gets an opportunity to play the bonus round. The audience’s reception towards this show has been mostly lukewarm.
Shark Tank India Season 3 (Series/Original) – Hit
Shark Tank India Season 3 is certainly an improvement over the second season, but it never reaches the heights of Season 1. It benefits from the presence of old sharks and welcomes a new shark, Deepinder Goyal, the founder of Zomato. Goyal tries his best but seems unable to fill the giant void left by Ashneer Grover. Still, Season 3 works.
