SonyLIV’s performance in June 2024 looks much better than May 2024. The Indian streamer offered six titles to viewers last month, with Gullak Season 4 (SonyLIV Original) stealing the limelight. The rest were licensed titles. Let’s have a look at how all these projects performed!
Varshangalkku Shesham (Movie/Licensed) – Hit

Despite its flaws, Varshangalkku Shesham is an entertaining movie which benefits immensely from the outstanding performances of Nivin Pauly and Dhyan Sreenivasan. In addition, critics praised the film’s direction, humour, cinematography, production design, and music. However, its runtime received some criticism.
Gullak Season 4 (Series/Original) – Hit

The Mishras stole the viewers’ hearts once again with Gullak Season 4. Veterans Jameel Khan and Geetanjali Kulkarni effortlessly create magic on our screens with their outstanding portrayals of Santosh and Shanti Mishra. Vaibhav Raj Gupta and Harsh Mayar did a phenomenal job at their respective portrayals of Anand and Aman Mishra. Apart from being an accurate embodiment of middle-class India, Season 4 also explores the transition of the young boys into adults, as they actively take part in household decisions this time.
Murder Is Easy (Series/Licensed) – Miss
Streaming Release: June 7, 2024
BBC’s adaptation of Agatha Christie’s classic 1939 novel turned out to be messy. Viewers pointed out several issues, including wobbly camera work, excessive close-up shots, and poor editing. One major concern is that the adaptation fails to stay true to the source material. Despite these shortcomings, the duo of David Jonsson and Morfydd Clark deliver good performances.
The Miracle Club (Movie/Licensed) – Hit

Helmed by popular television director Thaddeus O’Sullivan, The Miracle Club revolves around a group of working-class women from Dublin, Ireland, on a pilgrimage to Lourdes, France, in the 1960s. While the movie has its flaws, the fabulous performances by the leading ladies make it entertaining. The film boasts a talented cast including Laura Linney, Kathy Bates, and Maggie Smith.
The Hill (Movie/Licensed) – Miss
Streaming Release: June 21, 2024
The Hill follows Rickey Hill (Colin Ford), a baseball prodigy battling a degenerative spinal disease. Dennis Quaid portrays Rickey’s father, Pastor James Hill. Despite strong performances by Quaid and Ford, and visually appealing cinematography, this Christian drama stumbles with poor dialogue, a slow pace, and an overly preachy tone.
Journey to Bethlehem (Movie/Licensed) – Hit
Streaming Release: June 21, 2024
Antonio Banderas’ mesmerizing work as the megalomaniac King Herod overshadows the other actors’ performances in this one, though his character could have been developed further. While the musical elements and Christian themes might appear cheesy to some, the film remains entertaining. Fiona Palmao’s elegant and peaceful portrayal of Mother Mary also deserves praise. Overall, it’s a decent movie.
