SonyLIV has launched a new original show titled ‘The Jengaburu Curse’ that is claimed to be India’s first climate fiction (cli-fi) web series. Helmed by Nila Madhab Panda, ‘The Jengaburu Curse’ will start streaming on SonyLIV from 9th August, 2023.
‘The Jengaburu Curse’ is based in Odisha’s Jengaburu where mining expedition leads to the discovery of a strange radical uncommon to the area. On the other hand a mysterious type of disease is spreading in the same area whose cause is yet to be found.
A lot of sinister things are happening in Odisha’s Jengaburu where big deals worth millions are being made for an unknown mineral being extracted from the mines. But this mining has raised lots of suspicion with death tolls as high as clearing out a whole tribe. Turns out there’s a big international angle involved in this whole situation that might shift the world’s power balance altogether.
Against the backdrop of illegal mining, unexplained deaths, displaced communities and a missing father, Priya uncovers a dark international conspiracy around nuclear power that would endanger her life and the future of the country. ‘The Jengaburu Curse’ is India’s first cli-fi web-series that delves into the exploitation of natural resources for human greed, resulting in fatal consequences.
Directed by Nila Madhab Panda and written by Mayank Tewari, ‘The Jengaburu Curse’ stars Faria Abdullah, Nasser, Sudev Nair, Makrand Deshpande, Deepak Sampat, Indraneel Bhattacharya, Hitesh Yogesh Dave, Shri Kant, R. Badrinath, Sukumar Tudu, Manini Dey, Pavitra Sarkar and Melanie Ruth Hill.
