SonyLIV’s has launched first drop of the much awaited political thriller series ‘Freedm At Midnight’ and this one all about deciding on India’s first Prime Minister and the partition and how Mahatma Gandhi plays a key role in all of it. Helmed by Nikkhil Advani, ‘Freedom At Midnight’ is based award-winning book by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins and will start streaming soon only on Sony LIV.
In the teaser video dropped today, a meeting of the congress working committee is taking place with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad heading it and they are to decide who will be the new President of Indian National Congress and will later become independent India’s first Prime Minister. The members elect Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel unanimously but Mahatma Gandhi, who is all praises for Patel, wants him to withdraw his nomination as he believes the country needs Jawahar Lal Nehru.
In the later scenes we see glimpses of parliament, people protesting, violent outbreaks, partition of India and Pakistan, Mountabatten Plan and more.
Nikkhil Advani, the creator of ‘Rocket Boys’ will serve as the showrunner of ‘Freedom At Midnight’ starring Chirag Vohra, Sidhant Gupta, Rajendra Chawla, Arif Zakari, Ira Dubey, Malishka, Rajesh Kumar, KC Shankar, Cordelia Bugeja, Richard Teverson, Luke McGibney, Andrew Cullum and Alistair Findlay
‘Freedom At Midnight’ is set in 1947, the year India got independence but also suffered from partition. The story is being adapted by a team of writers including Abhinandan Gupta, Adwitiya Kareng Das, Gundeep Kaur, Divya Nidhi Sharma, Revanta Sarabhai and Ethan Taylor.
‘Freedom At Midnight’ is being created by SonyLIV’s sister firm StudioNEXT in association with Emmay Entertainment’s Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikkhil Advani who are also serving as producers for the show. SonyLIV’s highest budget original drama series claimed till date ‘Freedom at Midnight’ will premiere soon.
