SonyLIV Levels Up With Netflix, Prime Video With This Cool Feature

Just a few days back, we had shed some light on how a film like the ‘Best Picture’ Oscar winner ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ is an underwhelming experience on a big-screen television while watching it on the SonyLIV OTT platform owing to its 1080p resolution limitation. Or in other words, lack of 4K / Ultra HD content on SonyLIV.

And it looks like the streaming giant has responded well to the audience feedback and is seriously considering making the binge-watching experience for its subscribers more premium and enjoyable. The streaming platform has recently stated that the 4K video and Dolby Vision features will be soon made available on its OTT platform.

Recently, a Reddit user has revealed that the SonyLIV app has added a new row for streaming 4K content on some devices. So, apparently, the SonyLIV app has been updated to reflect the new feature, at least for some subscribers. For instance, one user has shared an image which reveals that the recently released second season of the ‘Rocket Boys’ is now available in higher resolution 4k UHD format.

However, whenever the comprehensive addition of a 4k resolution feature happens, SonyLIV might offer it only to a particular segment of its users. In our opinion, SonyLIV may provide 4k content to its subscribers who have enrolled for their annual subscription (Rs.999/- yearly) and half-yearly subscription (Rs.699/- for six months) packs.

Another important point is that the 4k feature may be available for just the SonyLIV original films and series titles like ‘Rocket Boys’ and its upcoming shows like ‘Scam 2003’ and ‘Freedom at Midnight’, etc. However, that remains to be seen because as of now, it seems that the 4k feature on SonyLIV is under the initial testing stages. But we think the complete rollout of the 4k and Dolby Vision features on SonyLIV will happen soon. So, stay tuned!
