October 2023 turned out to be another fine month for the SonyLIV streaming platform. The OTT platform offered only six projects to its subscribers last month. But all of them turned out brilliant, except the latest season of MasterChef India. Let’s have a look at them!
Phantom (Film/Licensed) – Hit
Streaming Release: 13 October 2023
Phantom is one of the most popular Korean movies of 2023. Reviews have hailed the Lee Hae-young directional as a gripping, entertaining, and action-packed spy action drama. The film’s events take place in 1930s Korea when the region was under the control of the Japanese. It takes inspiration from Mai Jia’s novel, Sound of the Wind. In addition, it treasures a thrilling plot with compelling characters.
Shantit Kranti Season 2 (TV series/Original) – Hit
Streaming Release: 13 October 2023
The sophomore entry in the hit Marathi series, Shantit Kranti, is surely better than the first season in almost every sense. Our favourite trio, Shreyas (Abhay Mahajan), Dinar (Alok Rajwade), and Prasanna (Lalit Prabhakar), somehow managed to gain a bit of maturity in Season 1. Shreyas’s mother forces him to join her travel business. Prasanna becomes a father of a daughter. And our loveable Dinar openly embraces his inner yogi. This time, we see these guys going on a spiritual journey.
Season 2 has plenty of LOL moments, with many pop culture references. It also plays a bit with religious sentiments. Overall, it has a risk-free tone and forces viewers to take a good look at the lives of the leading trio.
MasterChef India Season 8 (Reality TV series/Original) – Miss
Streaming Release: 16 October 2023
The eighth season of MasterChef India fails to recapture the lively spirit of its previous entries. The duo of Ranveer Brar and Vikas Khanna returns as judges in the show. Plus, we have Pooja Dhingra as the third celebrity chef/judge this time, replacing last season’s Garima Arora. Brar and Khanna are well-loved and prominent among Indian viewers. But the show needs to find a strong and compelling female judge. And Pooja Dhingra is not that judge. In addition, the show suffers from over-the-top melodrama.
Haami 2 (Film/Licensed) – Hit
Streaming Release: 20 October 2023
Haami 2 is a worthy and light-hearted sequel to the original 2018 flick. In the second part, helmers Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee play the cards very close to their chests. But they manage to get the job done. On the bright side, the sequel has better performances, better lines, and a better story than the first one. It revolves around an 8-year-old mathematics prodigy whose parents send him to a reality TV show to compete against other young participants.
Serengeti Season 3 (Documentary Series/Licensed) – Hit
Streaming Release: 25 October 2023
Just like its previous two seasons, Serengeti Season 3 is another scintillating, mesmerising, and beautiful documentary about Africa’s Serengeti region and the animals that reside there. British actress Adjoa Andoh has narrated the third season. John Boyega and Lupita Nyong’o did the same for Seasons 1 and 2, respectively. Bankrolled by XIX Entertainment, the documentary is commissioned by the Discovery Channel and BBC.
Pebbles (Koozhangal) (Film/Licensed) – Hit
Streaming Release: 26 October 2023
This little Tamil beauty from director PS Vinothraj has performed many wonders since its release in February 2021. It bagged the prestigious Tiger Award at the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Additionally, it was chosen as the official Indian entry for the category of Best International Feature Film at the 94th edition of the Oscars but failed to get nominated. The film revolves around a young boy who joins his alcoholic and violent father on a journey to find his mother, who flees from the house due to her husband’s abusive behaviour.
SonyLIV’s success score for October 2023: 83.33%
