SonyLIV has taken the first concrete step towards the creation of a dedicated division for Tamil content. Sony Pictures Network India, the parent company of SonyLIV, announced that it has appointed content expert Dr. G. Dhananjayan as Head, Tamil Content, Digital Business at SonyLIV.
For several weeks now there has been strong buzz about the launch of a dedicated Tamil content division at SonyLIV. Social media has been in a tizzy over news that SonyLIV has acquired a bunch of Tamil films to strengthen its Tamil content. Naragasooran, Laabam, Kadaisi Vivasayi, Thaen, among others, are some of the film names being bandied about on social media.
Now, with the appointment of Dr Dhananjay an, it seems that SonyLIV is taking its Tamil launch very seriously. Dr Dhananjay brings to the table over 25 years of experience in marketing and the content space. He has worked with companies like Kansai-Nerolac Paints, Saregama-HMV, Airtel, Vodafone, and in the entertainment space with Moser Baer Entertainment and Disney-UTV.
He will be tasked with driving SonyLIV’s expansion in Tamil content and Tamil-speaking regions, and with curating exceptional content to enhance SonyLIV’s Tamil content slate. Dr. Dhananjayan is the ideal choice to lead SonyLIV’s aggressive push in the Tamil streaming space. He has the advantage of having earned a Ph.D. doctorate in the film business, and two National Awards for authoring books on cinema.
Maybe, with the appointment of Dr Dhananjay as SonyLIV’s Tamil content head, we will soon get the announcements we’ve been waiting for!
