In the reel to the real, Sony is not really having the best of times. This time Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are at the other side of the boxing ring. But why?
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are American filmmakers, their best known work which won them the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018, are now in a feud with Sony.
Because Sony is not expected to renew their contract with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
The heated fight started over the budget of the ‘SPIDER-NOIR’ series.
In July 2024 “Spiderman Noir” was confirmed with its eighth episode long series. It was also announced that Brendan Gleeson will join the cast as the main villain. Gleeson will star alongside Nicolas Cage, who was previously announced as the series lead.
But now Sony is unwilling to continue the contract with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, because of its high end budget.
Spider-Man Noir was supposed to follow an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City, with the series not connecting to any other Spidey project, but “be set in its own universe and the main character will not be Peter Parker.
But with the peak of spider verse Sony is willing to continue the Spider-Verse series but they are stopping the creative takes.
As we are all aware Sony makes terrific Spider-Man but this dismissal of this long awaited Noir series can be a big bummer.
On the other hand Lord and Miller kept on rewriting the script making it hard for the others to keep up with it.
Some fans are assuming that, “ Across was meant to be 2 movies so it was probably on the same contract.”
