Soorarai Pottru Hindi Remake Lands In Legal Soup, Stay Order Passed

It was with much fanfare that Suriya‘s production company, 2D Entertainment, announced the Bollywood Hindi remake of the blockbuster film recently. As per the announcement, 2D Entertainment, which was the producer of the original Tamil film, would produce the Hindi remake. Prolific Bollywood production house, Vikram Malhotra‘s Abundantia Entertainment was to be the co-producer of the Soorarai Pottru Hindi remake.

But now, the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru has landed in a legal soup. The Madras High Court has passed a stay order on the Soorarai Pottru Hindi remake, and has retrained 2D Entertainment from going ahead with its pre-production processes until further notice from the honorable High Court. This news was first reported by Bombay Times.

The Court has passed this order as a result of a case filed by Sikhya Entertainment in the Madras High Court, requesting the court to intervene. Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment is the co-producer of the Tamil original of Soorarai Pottru. As such, the rights of the film belong to both 2D Entertainment and Sikhya Entertainment. The counsel for Sikhya Entertainment argued in court that the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru was originally planned to be a joint production between 2D Entertainment and Sikhya Entertainment, just like the Tamil original. 2D Entertainment has broken the terms of the agreement between them by keeping Sikhya Entertainment out of the production of the Soorarai Pottru Hindi remake, and bringing on board another entity – Abundantia Entertainment in this case.

After listening to both sides, the Madras High Court has stayed the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru as of now, and disallowed 2D Entertainment from going ahead with all production work on the film.
