It’s official. Suriya’s monster OTT hit Soorarai Pottru is all set for a Bollywood remake in Hindi. The news was confirmed in an announcement made last evening by the stakeholders. 2D Entertainment, Suriya’s production house that was the producer of the original Tamil film, will also produce the Hindi remake. Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment is the co-producer of the Soorarai Pottru Hindi remake. Abundantia has made well-received content such as Airlift, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Sherni, Shakuntala Devi, Breathe, Breathe Into The Shadows, among others. It has the mega ‘Ram Setu’ and Amazon Prime show ‘The End’ in the works.
The Soorarai Pottru Hindi remake will also be directed by Sudha Kongara, the director of the original Suriya film. The rest of the cast and crew of the film is yet to be finalised. The most interesting aspect of the Hindi remake, however, is who will be cast in the lead role to take Suriya’s place in the Hindi version.
Suriya’s performance in Soorarai Pottru came in for special praise from critics and audiences alike, particularly the emotionally charged segments of the film. The critically acclaimed Soorarai Pottru is thus the perfect recipe for a Hindi film, with its high emotion, drama and patriotic theme.
Though the leads for the film haven’t been announced yet, the scope of the film and the lead role make it an ideal project for Akshay Kumar. Also, Vikram Malhotra and Abundantia Entertainment have a solid relationship with Akshay Kumar, having given quite a few of their hits with the talented actor.
Ajay Devgn is another Bollywood actor who would suit the film and the lead role to a T. The intensity he brings to his every character would be perfect for the character of Maara. John Abraham is a far shot, but he could be a possibility too.
