Sooryavanshi’s Makers On An Intimidating Tussle With Exhibitors For The Best Deal

Sooryavanshi marks the long awaited combo of Akshay Kumar and Rohit Shetty and it is gearing up for a Theatrical release. The cop drama belongs to the ‘Singhamverse’ also known as Rohit Shetty’s cop universe along with Ajay Devgn’s Singham and Ranveer Singh’s ‘Simmba’. With the I&B ministry finally allowing the movie theatres and cinema halls to function with 100% occupancy, Sooryavanshi is going to be one of the first movies to get a blockbuster response from the audience who have waited for over an year to witness the magic of Akshay Kumar along with the extended cameos of Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh.

And for the release, it seems that the makers of Sooryavanshi don’t want to leave any stone unturned to make the movie a money spinner in the box office. And for that they are looking to get the best deal and hospitality possible from the theatre owner and exhibitors. The news is out that director Rohit Shetty along with the production house of Reliance Entertainment are in negotiation with the theatrical businesses to get the best possible deal for their upcoming action entertainer.

For those who aren’t familiar, Sooryavanshi was supposed to arrive last year but due to COVID-19, it was postponed by the makers indefinitely. The makers refused to release Sooryavanshi on an OTT platform because according to them the movie deserves a theatrical release. And hence they have waited for almost an year to release the movie in theatres. And due to this delay, Sooryavanshi has incurred some sort of losses which they are eyeing to cover with a better deal with the exhibitors.

Sooryavanshi’s makers are eyeing the best suitable deal for various terms – theatrical share, OTT deals and Virtual Print Fee. Since the cost of VPF is borne by the producers of the movie and is given to the exhibitors, the makers are hoping to get a deal which is best suitable to them. And since Sooryavanshi is being eyed as THE movie which will change the fortunes of theatres, the exhibitors have no choice but to give into the demands.

But is this right? The exhibitors and theatre owners are the ones which have suffered the most in the pandemic. As left with no new content to showcase and with the cinema halls being shut for more than 6 months, many people lost their livelihood and jobs and the main source of income. Now with 100% occupancy being allowed and Sooryavanshi being the first major movie to get showcased, shouldn’t their be a consideration for the exhibitors as well?

It’s true that the movie has had a few losses, but those can be recovered at the time of release and with 100% occupancy allowed now, it would be easy for the makers to cover their costs. But it might be harsh for the exhibitors to charge less than normal for a much needed hope for their future.

There are two sides to a story, should the exhibitors give in the demands of the makers for a “need of the hour” movie or should they retaliate to see their profits as well?

As for the film is concerned, an official announcement is on the way by the makers of Sooryavanshi soon enough!
