The 2015 Dulquer Salmaan leading Malayalam feature, ‘Charlie’, took critics and audience members by storm and the film went on to become a huge hit – both within and outside Kerala. In this film, Soubin Shahir gets to play a small, yet memorable role as a thief named Mr. D’souza (also known as Sunikuttan). Yesterday, a trailer dropped on Saina Movies official YouTube Channel, about a spinoff feature of the previously mentioned film based on Soubin Shahir’s character, titled ‘Kallan D’souza’. And according to the promo, the film will drop in theatres this month.
The word “Kallan” means thief – which is what D’souza is. In the trailer for ‘Kallan D’souza’, we will be focusing on D’souza and his partner in crime as they attempt to steal anything they can get their hands on. One day, they find out that there is something valuable worth stealing stashed in a huge bungalow. Being the opportunists they are, both of them attempt a heist to steal this “valuable item”. However, their steal brings forth the unwanted attention that the two life-long criminals didn’t anticipate – the attention of corrupt cops, politicians, gangsters and a couple of assains. Oh, they are in trouble now.
While this film is a spinoff, none of the main cast and crew from ‘Charlie’ are involved in this film – except for Soubin Shahir. The film has managed to rope in a brilliant cast which includes Dileesh Pothan, Surabhi Lakshmi, Vijayaraghavan, Prem Kumar, Aparna Nair and Hareesh Kanaran in major roles. The script is written by Sajeer Baba and the director is Jithu K Jayan.
