South Indian Flick ‘Peekaboo’ Gets Multi-OTT Release!

Mollywood’s upcoming horror thriller ‘Peekaboo‘ will premiere tomorrow, on 12 platforms, simultaneously. This indie horror flick dropped a trailer on the official YouTube channel of Saina Play, which is one of rhe platforms the movie will stream in. Check out the trailer at the end of this article.

Like most low-budget Malayalam films (and other South Indian films), ‘Peekaboo’ has decided to go for a “multiple OTT” release for a few reasons. Multi-OTT means a lot more subscribers, which means a lot more coverage. This will also help establish new actors, directors and scriptwriters. More streaming platforms also means more sources of profit for the film producers. Also, with Malayalam films being “desired” by a lot of regional OTTs, multiple OTT releases are a good way to keep a working relationship with all platforms.

And this is the best option for the film currently. Theatres are shut around the state – and even if they were open, there is very little chance that the movie will get preference over the big Malayalam films, which are “waiting in the wings”, to be released. And releasing the movie on a singular OTT platform would be even worse because of their contract for small budget films, especially ones that do not have any notable names attached to the project.

‘Peekaboo’ follows a young, cheerful, high-spirited girl, Raavi, who lives in a convent hostel that is infamous for being haunted. One night, when she is confronted by a nun for arriving late, she is thrown into a scary game of hide and seek as punishment.

The Malayalam horror film, ‘Peekaboo’ will premiere on 12 platforms – Amazon Prime Video, Saina Play, iTunes, ZEE5, MXPlayer, Hungama Play, Cave, Mainstream, Roots Video, First Show, Jai Ho and Theatre Play – tomorrow, on 6th August 2021.
