Space Force Season 2: Critics Find Season 2 a Treat to Watch

Season 2 of Steve Carrel led Space Force is scheduled to drop tomorrow on Netflix. However, reviews from critics around the world, who have watched the show, have started to come in. And they suggest Netflix did the right thing renewing the show for its second season.

Most reviews until now suggest that the upcoming season has vastly improved. Tania Hussain, of Popculture, writes “Space Force Reaches New Heights With out of This World Season 2”. Liz Shannon Miller, of Consequence, found season 2 a big improvement that leaves one wanting more. Adam Barnhardt (Comicbook) feels that the workplace comedy hits its stride the second time around. There are a few reviews criticizing the show. However, they seem to be in the minority as of now.

The early positive reviews are a good sign for the show. Season 1 of Space Force was not well received. It has a Rottentomato score of 39% with an IMDB rating of 6.7/10. It is a workplace comedy which streamed its first season on Netflix in 2020. It reunited The Office duo of screenwriter/producer Greg Daniels and actor Steve Carell. The show was inspired by ex-US President Donald Trump’s decision to establish the space service branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Ahead of season 2, in an interview to collider, co-creator Greg Daniels had explained a number of behind-the-scenes changes made to improve the show. Norm Hiscock (Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine Nine) was brought in as co-showrunner alongside Daniels. Ken Kwapis (an award-winning director) was brought in to direct all episodes of season 2. Ken Kwapis has directed episodes of The Office. Also, among other changes the length of episodes has been shortened.

These changes surely seemed to have worked with critics and early reviewers. Netflix would be hoping it works with mass audiences globally vindicating their decision of renewing the show despite a weak Season 1.

Season 2 of Space Force will start streaming on Netflix at 12 AM PT (1.30 PM IST) on February 18th.
