Director Sam Raimi has offered a positive update about the highly anticipated Spider-Man 4, which should star Tobey Maguire in the lead if it receives the greenlight from Sony in the future. The project was supposed to come out in May 2011, but Sony buried it for good after Raimi withdrew. Now, it seems like Spider-Man 4 may come to fruition.
Sam Raimi appeared at the recently held Monster-Mania Con in New Jersey. A prominent scooper and avid Spider-Man fan, @LukasASoaresRM, met Raimi and asked him about the status of Spider-Man 4.
This is what Raimi replied:
“He told me that there are chances of this happening simply because he has the same desire as we do. But if it is to happen, it will be at the right time.”

Not just Spider-Man 4, Sony also had plans to develop Spider-Man 5 & 6 with Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi. The development of the fourth Spidey movie commenced in 2007. James Vanderbilt was chosen first to pen down the film’s screenplay, followed by David Lindsay-Abaire and Gary Ross. However, Raimi did not like their screenplays. On top of this scenario, Sony put immense pressure on the Evil Dead helmer to meet the film’s release window, which was May 6, 2011. This scenario left Raimi with no other alternative except to leave his directional duties, ultimately forcing the studio to shelve Spider-Man 4 and the rest of the sequels for good.
Tobey Maguire was seen as the iconic web-slinger in the MCU’s Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), alongside Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield. Thanks to the Multiverse, he became a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Will Sony’s Spider-Man 4 try to establish a connection with the MCU? Only time will tell us. Stay tuned for more updates.
