‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ sequel ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ started swinging in theatres including India just a couple of days back. And in a record time, the highly rated movie has cracked the coveted international list of the top 50 movies on Auckland-based movies-centric social platform Letterboxd (from the year 2023). And not just that: the animated superhero flick has bagged the topmost spot on the Letterboxd top 50 list.
And in doing that, ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ (Rank 1) has outranked some popular Hollywood films such as Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ (Rank 3), ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3’ (Rank 4), and ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ (Rank 7), to name a few.
Not just on Letterboxd, ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ has been receiving rave reviews from critics and fans all around. For instance, it has received a fantastic critics’ score of 95% on reviews aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes. On another reviews’ aggregation website Metacritic, the film has garnered an impressive score of 86. And on IMDb too, ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ has got a user rating of 9.1/10.
Besides ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’, some Indian films (from 2023) too are on the Letterboxd top 50 international list. These are ‘Viduthalai: Part One’ (Rank 12), ‘Vaalvi’ (Rank 43), and the latest entrant is the widely acclaimed Malayalam movie ‘2018’ (Rank 47).
Coming back to ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’, the movie follows the daredevil multi-versal adventures of Miles Morales aka Spider-Man, who teams up with Spider-Woman Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to fight a powerful nemesis. But this creates a rift between Miles Morale and other Spider-People.
