Accomplished actor Tobey Maguire shot to overnight fame after he was cast as Peter Parker aka our friendly neighborhood Spiderman in Sam Raimi’s cult superhero film ‘Spiderman’, which was followed by two lucrative sequels.
And now, as per a recent report by leading entertainment portal The Hollywood Reporter, the California-born actor is all set to delight the audiences with his adorable screen presence in the period Hollywood film ‘Babylon’, which is set in the 1920s.
The film’s star-studded cast is led by Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt alongside ‘Suicide Squad’ star Margot Robbie, Diego Calva, Jovan Adepo, Jun Li, and Katherine Waterson, amongst others
‘Babylon’ is being helmed by ‘La La Land’ and ‘First Man’ director Damien Chazelle. Besides Tobey Maguire’s casting, ‘The Lazarus Effect’ actress Olivia Wilde, actor-director Spike Jonze, and ‘The Originals’ actress Phoebe Tonkin have also reportedly joined the cast of the multi-starrer project. Also featuring in the ambitious film are Max Minghella, Lukas Haas, Flea, Rory Scovel, Samara Weaving, Eric Roberts, P.J. Byrne, and Damon Gupton, amongst others
It is mention-worthy that Tobey Maguire had also been a part of ‘The Great Gatsby’, another period drama directed by Baz Luhrmann featuring Leonardo Di Caprio in the lead role and Bollywood legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan in a special cameo.
After acting in ‘The Great Gatsby’, Tobey Maguire was seen in ‘Labour Day’, television series ‘The Spoils of Babylon’ and in the 2014 film ‘Pawn Sacrifice’. ‘Babylon’ would be Maguire’s acting comeback of sorts, after a hiatus of almost eight years. Although, the ‘Seabiscuit’ actor had lent his voice in the 2017 animated film ‘The Boss Baby’. Maguire is also one of the executive producers of ‘Babylon’
Paramount Pictures’ ‘Babylon’ is being touted as an ode to the golden age of Hollywood when the film industry was making its important switch from silent movies to movies with sound (precisely known as talkies). The film is expected to release on a limited scale on December 25, 2022, and subsequently being planned for a wider release on Jan 6, 2023.
