The first trailer for Spike Lee’s upcoming A24 movie, Highest 2 Lowest, starring Denzel Washington, has arrived. The film will be available to stream on Apple TV+ starting September 5. Before that, it will receive a brief theatrical release on August 22.
Highest 2 Lowest has all the makings of another one of the filmmaker’s classic projects. Alongside Washington, the movie stars Ilfenesh Hadera, Ice Spice, ASAP Rocky, Jeffrey Wright, Dean Winters, and John Douglas Thompson. Ice Spice makes her acting debut in this film.
Written by William Alan Fox, the movie is inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low, which revolves around a businessman deciding whether to use his wealth to save a child’s life or further his career. Both films reinterpret Ed McBain’s popular mystery novel, King’s Ransom.
The film marks the fifth collaboration between Spike Lee and Denzel Washington. A24 serves as co-producer and co-distributor, along with Apple Original Films. Other production companies involved include Mandalay Pictures, Escape Artists, 40 Acres and a Mule, and Filmworks.
Highest 2 Lowest is set to debut outside the main competition at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in May. After its theatrical release by A24, it will stream on Apple TV+. Enjoy the brand-new trailer!
