The biggest ever Netflix franchise, which is undoubtedly Squid Game, is just days away from getting released. The second season came during Christmas last year, and the third one is hitting Netflix on the 27th of June.
The series started as a dark game where survival means money and losing means death. After the insanely huge reception of the first season, the second season took a different turn altogether. It became about the revenge of Player 456 against the people who kill commoners for the sake of their entertainment.
Well, Season 3 is a continuation which doesn’t look like a game focused at all. The new trailer released this morning is all about the reflections of Player 456. He is unable to distinguish reality from imagination; he is seemingly lost as well.
The thing is, this may be a diversion from the core idea of Squid Game as a series. But this is a good diversion.
Why?
Because the shock value is now gone. When the first season came then nobody had imagined that a series could be this dark and violent. Now that people already know the violence that is there in Squid Game, the makers are trying to play it differently.
Since it is the last season and makers would want a great end, the content needs to resonate deeply with the audience. Let’s see if that happens.
