O Yeong-Su, known for his role as Oh Il-nam in the smash hit Netflix series, Squid Game, is facing legal repercussions as he was convicted of Sexual Harassment charges on Friday. The actor, who is the first South Korean to win a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Role in Television, was given a suspended prison sentence lasting for 8 months, and also a 2 year ban.
The incident in question dates back to 2017, when O was stationed in a rural area for a theatre performance, according to the Suwon District Court. Despite having denied the allegations, O Yeong-Su has now been mandated to attend a 40-hour sexual offence treatment program and undergo educative classes on sexual violence. He stated that he would raise an appeal, with the 7 days offered for the same.
The accusations against him involved unwarranted hugging and kissing on the cheek, as reports have surfaced. This also adds to the ever growing concern in Korea’s entertainment industry surrounding sexual misconduct.
Many prominent figures in the industry have faced allegations and charges, and the industry is also known for being cutthroat too as seen by the high number of suicides in the field.
