May the fourth be with you! Lucasfilm has released the second season of Star Wars: Tales animated anthology series, Tales of the Empire, on the Disney+ streaming service. As a result, critics have started sharing their first reactions about the latest Star Wars instalment.
Season 2 seems like a dark side makeover of ‘Tales of the Jedi’. While Season 1 focused on the origins of Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano, the new season explores the backstories of Barriss Offee and Morgan Elsbeth.
First reactions to ‘Tales of the Empire’ are mostly positive, with special praise directed towards the depiction of Morgan Elsbeth’s origins. However, some have criticised Barriss Offee’s arc in the show. In addition, the second season looks strictly developed for hardcore Star Wars fans, who are familiar with the franchise’s ins and outs. Maybe that’s why its audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is so low (only 60%, based on 50 responses) compared to its critic score, which stands at 86%.
Season 2 doesn’t share any connection with future Star Wars entries as both Barriss and Morgan are dead. The latter was killed in the live-action Ahsoka Disney+ series, whereas Barriss met her demise during the great Jedi purge triggered by Palpatine’s Order 66. Though, Season 2 does a wonderful job of expanding the established Star Wars canon and telling fans new stories within the galaxy far, far away.
