Clone Force 99, better known as The Bad Batch, was the only clone squad that disobeyed the notorious Order 66, issued by Palpatine. As a result, they decided not to slaughter all the Jedis and became fugitives in the eyes of the Galactic Empire. They first appeared in the last season of The Clone Wars. Then, those guys got their show a couple of years ago. Also, we witnessed Omega becoming an integral part of The Bad Batch, consisting of Hunter, Tech, Wrecker, and Echo. Season 1 had a lot of great moments. But it had its fair share of flaws. On the other hand, Season 2 looks more serious, gripping, and refined than the first one.
Episode 6 of Season 2 came out yesterday. It was spectacular in terms of visuals and action. But from the story’s point of view, it felt like a filler episode. Still, it was enjoyable. And Phee is undoubtedly one of the best characters in the show.
The first five episodes of Season 2 have worked out extremely well. They had better storylines, visuals, and voice performances than the first season. And most importantly, they were not treated as filler episodes. Dee Bradley Baker once again did an outstanding job as the voice behind all the clones of The Bad Batch. Michelle Ang as Omega looked good too.
The biggest problem Season 1 suffered from was tonal inconsistency. It kicked off by showing the terrible aftermath of Order 66, followed immediately by humour, which was strange to watch. It did not give the fans a chance to absorb heavy moments properly. But that’s not the case with the ongoing season.
A lot of fans are wondering about Hunter and Wrecker not getting enough screen time as they got in the first season. Instead, Tech is the one who shines the most in Season 2. It makes sense why the makers are doing this. Focusing on other members of The Bad Batch is also crucial in the long run.
In addition to vibrant visuals and top-notch VFX, Kevin Kiner’s music also helps in elevating Season 2.
Another thing noticeable in the second season is that it doesn’t suffer from senseless guest appearances or cameos. All the guest appearances have managed to fit perfectly into the storylines of Season 2 so far. The makers better not mess this up in the upcoming episodes. A forced guest appearance or cameo never works out well. The Book of Boba Fett is the epitome of this scenario. Relying too much on prominent characters like The Mandalorian and Cad Bane completely butchered Boba’s arc in the show. In other words, Boba Fett became a side character in his own show. How cruel is that?
The finale of The Bad Batch Season 2 will arrive on Disney+ in March. Let’s see how the ongoing season ends. Indian viewers can stream all the episodes on Disney+ Hotstar. Stay tuned for more updates.
