The highly anticipated trailer for the Japanese anime anthology series, ‘Star Wars: Visions’ almost half a day ago, and it is definitely a must-watch. The series is expected to drop next month, and after a trailer like this; forget the new trilogy and ‘The Mandalorian’ – give us more Japanese anime. The trailer is available in two languages – English and Japanese; check it out at the end of this article.
It may sound weird that there is a new Japanese anime anthology series based on the beloved Star Wars franchise, but after everything the Disney property has been through – it was time for a change. And a change that needed to happen, as the new promotional video indicates. Nothing much about the show is given away (then again, it is an anthology series after all); the few short clips we are shown, is filled with action and brilliant artwork. We couldn’t keep our eyes away from the screen during the trailer, and we expect the same thing to happen during the web series as well.
Lucasfilm Animation has decided to team up with a bunch of Japanese anime studios, the best in the business to create their own short stories and animate them into an episode for the anthology series. Samurai lightsaber fights, brilliant action sequences and amazing art are all brought together into the familiar world of Star Wars by its brilliant background score. As Jake Peralta once said, “Chills, literal chills”.
The trailer is shown in two languages as expected – in English and Japanese (as mentioned previously), and surprisingly, the Japanese trailer looked more appealing. We figure that has more to do with the art style and how accustomed a viewer is to Japanese anime. Still, no matter the language, we have one hell of a show dropping in on us, next month.
Star Wars: Visions is expected to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on September 22nd 2021.
