Transformers: Rise of the Beasts director Steven Caple Jr has teased a potential crossover between ‘Transformers’ and ‘G.I. Joe’ franchises.
In a recent interview with CBR, Caple Jr revealed some possible storylines that may become a part of the Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover. He also shared his interest in introducing G.I. Joe Renegades in the crossover. This faction from the G.I. Joe universe emerges from the 2010 hit animated series.
The final moments of ‘Rise of the Beasts’ show Noah meeting a representative of G.I. Joe, who offers him a chance to join the elite covert special operations unit of the U.S. Military.
Caple Jr also shared his excitement about how G.I. Joe and Transformers would unite in the crossover, given that Optimus took a while to trust Noah and vice versa in ‘Rise of the Beasts’. “Now what happens when you don’t trust another team? Now, there’s a new faction. How would they clash? Would they be helping? There are so many great questions to explore. I don’t know if any of this is going to be in the next movie. But I think there’s a way that this is a foundation that we can play with,” the director said.
The first comic-book crossover between ‘Transformers’ and ‘G.I. Joe’ took place in 1986, via a four-issue limited series published by Marvel Comics. It featured the G.I. Joe teaming up with prominent Transformers characters to defeat the deadly Decepticons. Since then, several comic-book, T.V., and toy crossovers have occurred between the two franchises.
‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ has earned over $410 million globally at the box office. It is set to arrive on Prime Video soon. Stay tuned for more updates.
