Steven Knight on Peaky Blinders Film: “It’s Like Coming Home”

Steven Knight recently appeared on the British radio station, Heart Breakfast, and spilled some beans about his upcoming ‘Peaky Blinders’ spinoff film in addition to talking about his role in the opening ceremony for the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The filming will take place in Knight’s Digbeth Studios. It will follow the events of the sixth season which premiered earlier this year. The screenwriter and director disclosed that he was close to finishing his script for the upcoming PB project. He also confirmed that the shooting would commence “within 18 months”.

“We’re going to shoot it at the studios in Digbeth, and on location in Digbeth in Birmingham,” Knight said. “Digbeth and Small Heath [are] where the Peaky Blinders actually roamed, so it’s like Peaky’s coming home.”

Furthermore, the filmmaker revealed that he was planning to add some new faces that “will hopefully be quite surprising” to the movie.

Knight has a very important creative role in the opening ceremony of this year’s Commonwealth Games. Alexander Stadium has been chosen to host the event in front of nearly 30,000 people.

When asked about what to expect from the ceremony, Steven replied, “It’s fantastic, even the dress rehearsal was really emotional, it tells a story, the story of the common people. Here’s a city that hasn’t banged its drum since the second world war and now it’s our turn.”

Fans can expect Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders spinoff film to come out sometime in 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
