Steven Knight is ecstatic about the “mind-blowing” cast of the upcoming Peaky Blinders flick, which will soon enter the production stage for Netflix. Apart from Cillian Murphy, who has gained global fame for portraying Birmingham’s own stylish and rugged gangster boss Tommy Shelby, the feature also boasts talents like Dune’s Rebecca Ferguson and Saltburn’s Barry Keoghan.
The forthcoming movie follows a six-season series, which starred Academy Award winner Murphy, along with notable names such as Tom Hardy, Joe Cole, Paul Anderson, and the late Helen McCrory.
Knight is tight-lipped about the movie’s plot, but he has teased that its events will take place during World War II. Netflix greenlighted the project back in June this year.
“We’ve announced Rebecca Ferguson, we’ve announced Barry Keoghan, we’ve got some more announcements coming,” said Knight in his recent interview with BBC at The Royal Television Society’s convention in London.
The Peaky Blinders movie couldn’t have asked for better actors than Ferguson and Keoghan. The former doesn’t need to prove her versatility as an actor. She displayed her exceptional talent and insane acting range in both Mission: Impossible and Dune franchises. She was able to effectively capture the complexities of Lady Jessica and Ilsa Faust, while also delivering physically demanding and emotionally intense performances in both franchises.
As for Keoghan, the Saltburn fame’s career has taken off in a way that many actors only dream of. Recent years have turned out too kind for the Irish actor. And he deserves all the praise and recognition. It was not until 2017 that he first started gaining attention from Hollywood executives, thanks to his incredible performances in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk and Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Killing of the Sacred Deer.
Then we watched Keoghan play Druig in Marvel Studios’ Eternals and Joker (briefly) In Matt Reeves’ The Batman. His collaboration with Martin McDonagh, The Banshees of Inisherin, earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Both Ferguson and Keoghan are incredibly talented actors who have proven their ability to deliver powerful and mesmerising performances. Their presence will undoubtedly elevate the forthcoming Peaky Blinders feature. Stay tuned for more updates.
