Steven Spielberg Verifies Taking Part in the Ready Player Two

Producer Steven Spielberg, who oversaw the first 2018 movie, says he will be producing Ready Player Two. The science fiction film, which has many pop-culture Easter eggs, is set in a dystopian future when people utilize a virtual reality simulation known as the OASIS to escape reality. It is based on the novel of the same name by Ernest Cline, who co-adapted it for the screen with Zak Penn. Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Lena Waithe, T.J. Miller, Simon Pegg, and Mark Rylance are among the cast members of Ready Player One.

Spielberg gave an update on his next projects to Showbiz 411 during the Universal Pictures event at Soho House following the 2024 Oscars. “We’re in the discovery phase, trying to find out what’s next,” the renowned filmmaker stated, indicating that nothing would be in production in 2024. Spielberg did, however, provide an update on Ready Player Two, indicating that he will serve as a producer on the follow-up.

Following its over $607 million global film office debut in 2018, Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One novel sparked talks about a possible sequel, which began in 2020 with the publication of Ready Player Two. The author soon declared that a movie adaption was in the first stages of planning. Even with Spielberg’s confirmation that he is a producer and Cline’s remark, Warner Bros. hasn’t formally given the go-ahead for a Ready Player Two film.

Spielberg has always been against sequels, except Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park, so his participation in Ready Player Two even as a producer is still a little surprising. He does, however, regularly produce films without being heavily involved in their production recent instances of this include Masters of the Air, Maestro, The Color Purple, and Halo, The entire scope of Spielberg’s engagement as a producer should become evident as Ready Player Two is under development.
