Digital audiences in India are in for a treat. Steven Spielberg’s delightful ‘West Side Story’ is all set to release on OTT in India. For all those who’ve been waiting for the romantic drama and musical film to land on OTT, and are wondering when and where ‘West Side Story’ will arrive on OTT, we’ve got some great news. West Side Story is all set to premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar in the month of February. While there’s no confirmed date for the OTT release of the film yet. Tentatively, West Side Story will premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar on 11th or 14th February, just in time for Valentine’s Day 2022.
Steven Spielberg‘s ‘West Side Story’ has received overwhelming accolades from critics, audiences and awards shows. The film won three awards at the Golden Globes 2022, including the Best Picture Award. Many have said that Steven Spielberg’s film is even better than its previous iteration from 1961. Both films are an adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical, titled Bernstein’s West Side Story. Interestingly, this is the first time ever that auteur Steven Spielberg has tried his hand at directing a musical.
West Side Story is directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Tony Kushner. West Side Story stars Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler in her film debut. Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez, Mike Faist and Rita Moreno make up the rest of the cast. Incidentally, Rita Moreno was a part of the 1961 film too. Spielberg’s West Side Story has incorporated the original music composed by Leonard Bernstein, and also Stephen Sondheim’s original lyrics from the 1957 musical. West Side Story hit theatres worldwide on December 10, 2021.
