Strange Case of Next Telugu Direct OTT Release!

Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya (Telugu) was initially scheduled to release on 17th April 2020. But for reasons known, it will be skipping the traditional theatre release and makers have decided on digital release. Netflix will play their host from 15th July.

The film is going to be the second major Telugu-language exclusive on Netflix after Krishna And His Leela.

This upcoming Telugu film is a remake of a Malayalam movie ‘Maheshinte Prathikaram’ and marks the second remake of the original, Tamil being the first. This Satyadev Kancharana starrer is about a photographer who is beaten up by a stranger in his village when the former tries to solve an issue. The photographer then seeks for revenge! The comedy drama film is directed by Venkatesh Maha who is known for his previous directorial ‘C/o Kancharapalem.’ It is produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni of Arka Media Works. The Tamil remake in 2018 named ‘Nimir’ did not do well at the box office and rumours of a Hindi remake are in talks too. However, no confirmation has been received.

The original Malayalam film won two National Awards for best original screenplay and best feature film in Malayalam. As said earlier, it’s Tamil version bombed at box office maybe because the entire story and screenplay was best suited for Malayalam industry. We can’t speculate the fate of its Telugu remake and it’s a curious case as of now. It can either be a hit like the original or go down like the Tamil one. We can only judge once it is out on Netflix and till then, let’s hope for the best!
