OTT giant Netflix is usually known for its seamless interface and a premium binge-watching experience across the globe. However, a strange issue related to foreign language subtitles has irked multiple viewers of the streaming service.
The problem is related to the absence of subtitles in some of its titles where the characters converse in their native / foreign language. Let us explain with the help of an example from a popular movie currently streaming on Netflix – ‘Rush Hour’.
For instance, in the Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker starrer action-comedy film ‘Rush Hour’, when Jackie Chan’s character interacts with another character in a particular scene, they speak in their native Chinese language. However, strangely, instead of the Chinese-to-English translation in the film’s subtitles on Netflix, just the words “Speaking Chinese” appears on the Netflix app.
And the above mentioned ‘foreign language subtitles’ issue does not seem to be just limited to one movie. Because multiple Netflix users have been complaining about the same problem.
For example, where characters in a film/series are speaking in a foreign language, merely the words “Speaks in Italian” or “Speaking Albanian” appears on the screen, instead of its English or applicable language subtitles translation.
Although this ‘lack of foreign language subtitles translation’ issue may seem to be a minor problem, it turns out to be quite irritating to a segment of audiences who want to enjoy and understand the goings-on in a particular movie or series to the fullest.
So, Netflix should take note of this particular subtitle problem and incorporate the required changes in its streaming application for an enjoyable, premium and smooth streaming experience.
