Duffer Brothers, Ross and Matt Duffer, have credited Stephen King and Steven Spielberg countless times for their inspiration for Stranger Things. Netflix dropped the first volume of Season 4 on May 27, consisting of seven episodes. And the upcoming Vol 2 consists of two movie-length episodes, concluding the overall “Upside Down/Hawkins” arc that commenced almost six years ago. Also, the duo is busy with their adaptation of The Talisman.
In their interview with Variety, Duffer Brothers shared their experiences about their upcoming project to which Spielberg and King are also attached, “It’s amazing,” Matt Duffer revealed. “We’ve had one meeting with Steven Spielberg and the other producers. It’s really early right now, we have an outline for the first episode.”
Ross Duffer added, “I think with Spielberg and really what is so inspiring is how much he loves the joy of storytelling, specifically with this, the story of The Talisman, again there’s a lot of supernatural things, there’s a werewolf, there’s a lot of exciting things that are going on, but at its core, it’s really about a mother and her son and their relationship and their love for one another.”
The Talisman novel is a creation of both Stephen King and Peter Straub. It tells the story of a young boy named Jack Sawyer and his exhilarating voyage of searching for the mystical Talisman. It is the only thing that can save his dying mother. Things get twisty after he finds himself crossing the real USA along with travelling through the Territories, a minacious parallel world. Additionally, Jack encounters “Twinners”, reflections of those people who he knows in the real world. There, he meets Queen Laura who also happens to be his mother’s reflection.
Apart from Duffer Brothers, one of the writers and executive producers of Stranger Things, Curtis Gwinn, is also attached to the upcoming adaptation of The Talisman. Plus, both Netflix and Paramount Television Studios are serving as the show’s producers. And Spielberg will act as an executive producer here as well. Stay tuned for more updates.
