Stranger Things Season 4 Vol 2 has done the unthinkable. The much-awaited premiere of the finale episodes of the blockbuster Netflix show has caused the streaming giant to crash – for the first time ever!
We’ve heard of several streamers suffering outages in the past, when they were to stream highly anticipated episodes, finales or premieres. It first happened with Disney Plus on two consecutive weeks, when WandaVision Episodes 7 & 8 were to go live. The sudden rush from viewers to catch the WandaVision penultimate episode and the finale episode in its next week caused Disney Plus to crash in several countries at the same time. HBO Max suffered the same fate when the finale episode of Mare Of Easttown was to stream on the platform.
Yet, such a thing can happen with Netflix is simply beyond belief. Netflix has the most robust servers in the entire streaming ecosystem. Its streaming system is highly advanced and fully equipped to handle viewer traffic of any magnitude.
But so massive is the craze and excitement for the Stranger Things finale episodes that they beat even Netflix’s sound streaming system. Most viewers stayed up to watch the new episodes of Stranger Things Season 4, which dropped on Netflix at 12 am PST and 3:00 am EST in the USA. As fans rushed to stream the series finale in the wee hours of the morning in the USA, they were greeted with the unwelcome message on their screens that read,
“Network error. There is a problem connecting to Netflix. Please try again later”.
And believe us when we tell you, this is the first time ever that Netflix has suffered a crash of this kind – ever since inception!
As per Downdector, a website that monitors web outages, complaints regarding the outages peaked just as Stranger Things Season 4 Vol 2 went live. Twitter was inundated with irate tweets from annoyed fans saying that Netflix has crashed and they’re unable to watch Stranger Things Season 4 Vol 2. After an initial volley of complaints on Twitter about the Netflix crash, viewers were able to watch the new episodes in peace as the issue was resolved within half an hour.
