Netflix’s Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin, best known for playing Lucas Sinclair, has shared how he feels about Season 5, which is set to conclude the show that began its iconic and memorable journey back in 2016. This outstanding Duffer Brothers creation not only made Netflix a global household name but also catapulted McLaughlin, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, and Joe Keery to worldwide fame.
Every season of Stranger Things has been bigger than the last. Season 4 raised the stakes dramatically for Eleven (Brown) and the rest of her group, revealing how Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and the Upside Down were responsible for the havoc wreaked on their lives and their hometown of Hawkins, Indiana, for so long.
McLaughlin recently reflected on finishing the show after dedicating ten years to it. He told ScreenRant that his last day filming Stranger Things was a huge emotional release, underscoring how much the series means to him, the cast, the crew, and the fans.
Here’s what he said in the interview:
“I’ve done the show for so long, for, of course, myself and my love of art and TV, and this was my childhood dream, but this has been a lot of people’s childhood experience, and it’s gotten people past a lot of their trauma or things that they’ve experienced, and they watch the show and it’s helped them escape, you know what I mean? It’s helped them see a different way to life and finding new friends, and believing in friendship and believing in people.”
While McLaughlin didn’t reveal anything major about Stranger Things Season 5, he did mention that the final season would be a deeply emotional and meaningful conclusion to the fan-favourite series. Given the stakes, the emotional bonds between the characters matter more than ever. The true reason the show has become such a cultural staple lies in its heartfelt, moving portrayals of friendship and connection.
McLaughlin’s words also highlight the importance of friendship. It was the bond between the characters that helped them stop Vecna in Season 4, and that same bond helped save Max (Sadie Sink) from Vecna’s psychological grip. And once again, it will be the power of friendship that enables El’s group to defeat Vecna for good. But the real question is: Will Vecna be able to shatter those friendships and infiltrate their minds?
One of the most memorable dynamics in Season 4 was the bond between Lucas and Max. Sure, Lucas clearly has a crush on Max, but by the end of the season, their connection transcends romance. They develop a real sense of trust. Max’s feelings for Lucas were one of the key elements that helped her break free from Vecna’s mental hold.
What lies ahead for Max, Lucas, and the rest of the group in Stranger Things Season 5? We’ll have to wait for the final season to hit Netflix, expected to premiere in late 2025. Stay tuned for more updates.
