Stray Video Game To Get Animated Film Adaptation From Annapurna

The award-winning video game from Annapurna Interactive, Stray, is another video game to get its own film adaptation from a prominent studio. Annapurna Animation will work on the video game’s animated film adaptation. Developed by BlueTwelve Studio, Stray gives opportunity to players to play through a drone-equipped stray cat. The protagonist tries to survive against machines and robots in the game.

Robert Baird of Annapurna Animation announced the animated movie adaptation of the acclaimed video game in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. “It’s a buddy comedy about a cat and a robot, and there’s such a hilarious dynamic. So, there’s comedy inherent in this, but there’s not one human being in this movie. I think it’s one of the reasons why the game was incredibly popular, that you are seeing the world through the point of view of an adorable cat.”

Baird also added that the upcoming movie adaptation will take inspiration from the game’s ‘hope punk’ aesthetics, meaning that the film will turn optimism, kindness, and positivity into revolutionary weapons.

This adaptation emerges due to the gigantic successes of several video game adaptations, such as HBO’s The Last of Us, Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and more.

Nick Bruno will helm the forthcoming Stray animated film adaptation. He is known to direct Netflix’s Nimona, which was adapted from ND Stevenson’s graphic novel. Stay tuned for more updates.
