The merger between Voot, the video streaming app owned by Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd, and JioCinema is nearing completion, according to some reports. The announcement of the merger is expected to take place by the end of May, once the Indian Premier League (IPL) season gets over. The integration of the back-end systems has already been done, and Voot will eventually be phased out.
JioCinema recently introduced a premium pricing plan at ₹999 per year for exclusive English language content and is also considering offering smaller packs with limited access and smaller validity.
Reliance Industries subsidiary, Jio Studios, is planning to invest up to ₹2,200 crores to produce 100 movies and web originals. This move aims to enhance business prospects and maintain customer engagement after the conclusion of the IPL. Voot’s library, along with the extensive catch-up TV programming slate from Viacom18’s linear TV channels.
In conclusion, the merger between Voot and JioCinema is in its final stages, and the official announcement is expected to be made at the end of May. It has been anticipated for a long time but it seems that JioCinema is finally coming up with the solution.
