In terms of hype, it was astronomical—Stree 2’s Independence Day release has been one of the most successful releases. The numbers are speaking for themselves, and they are screaming success. Compared to its contemporary competition, Stree 2 not only beats them but also practically humiliates them.
Stree 2 has now emerged as a record-breaker. Not only did it surpass the opening weekend collections of Fighter and Kalki 2898 AD, but it has also become the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024. How big are the numbers?
Fighter had an opening weekend of ₹116 crore but later slowed down, finishing just shy of the ₹200 crore mark. However, Stree 2 grossed that mark in no time, taking advantage of the extended weekend and reaching ₹229 crore, becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film in just five days.
Though Kalki’s Hindi dub earned more money, it is fundamentally not a Hindi film. The Hindi dub of Stree opened with ₹112 crore and its lifetime collection reached ₹294 crore.
To be realistic, Stree 2 is on a rampage with no signs of stopping. The next big release is Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency, which does have some hype around it. Stree 2 likely won’t die out due to competition but possibly due to fatigue. We could have seen an equal battle if Pushpa 2 hadn’t changed its release date, but that thought is nothing more than wishful thinking.
