Sudhir Mishra’s action thriller series ‘Tanaav’ premiered on the SonyLIV OTT platform a few weeks back. As it’s already known, ‘Tanaav’ is a remake of the acclaimed Israeli show ‘Fauda’. Diehard OTT lovers might also be aware that the second and the third seasons of ‘Fauda’ were directed by Rotem Shamir.
So, as you can see, Sudhir Mishra’s obvious connection with ‘Fauda’ director Rotem Shamir is that the former had directed the Indian adaptation of the Israeli series which was helmed by the latter. But this fact is known by many.
The second and the more interesting and mostly unknown connection between Sudhir Mishra and Rotem Shamir is that the veteran Indian filmmaker had also directed another Indian series adaptation of an acclaimed Israeli series which was also helmed by Rotem Shamir. Can you take a wild guess about which series we are talking about?
Actually, it’s the Israeli drama series ‘Hostages’ which was adapted in India by Applause Entertainment. ‘Hostages’ Season-1 started streaming on the Disney+ Hotstar OTT platform in the year 2019. And yes, you guessed it right – the Indian adaptation of ‘Hostages’ was directed by none other than Sudhir Mishra while the parent Israeli show was directed by Rotem Shamir.
The Indian version of ‘Hostages’ follows a brilliant surgeon Dr.Meera Anand (played by Tisca Chopra), who is forced to assassinate a high profile patient while performing a routine surgery. It also features Ronit Roy in the role of a senior cop.
It’s an interesting coincidence that Sudhir Mishra has directed not one but two Indian series which were adapted by Israeli series ‘Fauda’ and ‘Hostages’ and both of which were previously helmed by Rotem Shamir.
After getting appreciation from OTT audiences for his latest series ‘Tanaav’, Sudhir Mishra is all set to direct Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bhumi Pednekar in a thriller movie titled ‘Afwaah’.
