Sun Network’s OTT platform Sun Nxt had many things going for it when it hit the market with a vast vintage movie library besides access to its group of channels. However, things haven’t gone great for the television giant on the digital circuit. Complaints about the poor interface, lack of latest/successful movies across multiple languages and bombardment of advertisements despite a viewer paying for the subscription, has cost them a section of spectators.
Sadly, they didn’t even make any inroads in production of originals for the platform while its counterparts like Hotstar and Zee5 are growing from strength to strength day after day. Though Sun Nxt is doing just about okay with movies in Tamil and Malayalam, it isn’t the same in Telugu and Kannada. Though Mahesh Babu’s Maharshi has been acquired by the brand, it is obviously going to take a lot of time to arrive on the platform.
It’s high time the brand found new ways to stay in the market beyond its television content. With years of experience in several media, it’s quite obvious that Sun isn’t doing justice both to themselves and its viewers. The latest in the news is its acquisition of another Mahesh Babu movie Sari Leru Neekevvaru, that is yet to even commence the shoot. That’s probably the excitement we’ve been waiting from Sun NXT!
