After the massive success of Gadar 2, there are talks on a third part for the franchise. Gadar 2 is now in the list of the highest grossing movies of 2023 in India and the Sunny Deol film has fanned the flame of nostalgia among fans.
The success is quite unprecedented and nobody could predict that the film could be so huge at the box office. Shariq Patel, chief business officer of Zee Studios has said that the studio is now focusing on mass entertainers and films made for the single screens without being apologetic for it. There might be a different brand for this purpose alone.
Patel has also said that the sequel for Gadar 2 will not happen only to mint money, it will happen only with a proper story. He also compares Gadar 2 with ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ saying that it is a proper sequel, with the same people and the continuation of the same story.
He has said, “We have to get the story. It took Anil Sharma and Shaktimaan 20 years to find the story. We find the story we go fast but I am assuring you nothing will be done just for making the money and encashing the brand to get that money and then kill the franchise and kill the brand. This is a true sequel. It’s on the lines of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ with the same character several years later, it’s not a franchise, we’re not creating a franchise, we’ll have to create a sequel to it. Would I love to create a Tara Singh spinoff? I’d love it. We have to figure out how to do that.”
Nothing is certain, but there is a strong possibility for a third Gadar movie now. It is great news for fans and the film industry as well. After a long time, the box office is witnessing such engagement with movies from Bollywood, Hollywood and South India all making it big, together. Gadar 2 has created history and if a sequel ever comes, it should maintain the legacy of these films.
