It has been an excellent year for Bollywood concerning the content-oriented films. Many have found success, not only with critics but also theatrically at the box office. One such film is Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30.
The ‘content’ film is a biopic of mathematician Anand Kumar. When it was announced, there was tremendous excitement on the movie due to the combination of Hrithik Roshan and director Vikas Bahl of Queen fame. But, in due course, Super 30 lost its sheen due to the delays and “MeeToo” allegation on Vikas Bahl.
There were not many expectations on Super 30. But just like the real-life character Anand Kumar on whom the movie was made, it defined all odds and emerged victoriously. Despite the competition, it has collected nearly 150 Cr Nett domestically.
The first half of Super 30 is amongst the best of films of not just this year, but in the past few. The old school masala heroic tradition with undercurrent emotions and focus on values, were fantastically done. The second half has its moments in parts, but overall lacks the same grit and glory of the first. The climax takes an over the top route, which is likely to split the positive impression further.
Hrithik Roshan goes de-glam and lives in the role of Anand Kumar. After a small initial hesitation, one is entirely immersed in his act and the narrative. For the narratively high first half and terrific Hrithik Roshan alone, Super 30 deserves a watch.
Super 30 is available on Hotstar in India and abroad. Go ahead and binge it now.
